1. If you chose to fire, subtract a round of ammunition from your supplies and decide who will make a Marksmanship spin.
If you spin a number equal to or lower than your Marksmanship number, you hear a muffled yell and the sound of someone falling into the bushes.
If you spin a number higher than your Marksmanship number, you hear a voice yell, "Hey, I’m one of you! Just got lost on my way back to camp!" You can either shoot again or yell back to the person.
If you shoot again, repeat the procedure above.
If you decide to yell back, spin on your Common Sense:
If you spin your Common Sense number or lower, you realize that the person is one of your own soldiers.
If you spin a number higher than your Common Sense number, you fire at the person again because you believe that he is the enemy.
Repeat this series of events until either the other soldier has been shot or you realize that he is not the enemy. When you investigate, you see that you have shot another soldier from your own army. Both soldiers on picket duty can attempt to save his life by spinning their Medical Expertise number or lower; if both spin a number higher than their Medical Expertise number, the soldier dies. If he lives, both soldiers lower their Morale by 1 point. If he dies, lower Morale by 2 points.
2. If you wait and see what is making the sound, decide who will make a Common Sense spin.
If you spin a number equal to or lower than your Common Sense number, you realize that it is one of your own soldiers who had gotten lost in the woods.
If you spin a number higher than your Common Sense number, you shoot at what you believe is an enemy soldier. Make a Marksmanship spin and follow the procedure detailed in the #1 result above.
3. If you move toward the sound, as you approach the sound stops. Then you hear the unmistakable sound of a musket being cocked and readied to fire. A flash of light in the dark nearly blinds you. Decide who will make an Agility spin.
If you spin a number equal to or lower than your Agility number, the shot missed you. You can either return fire or duck under cover.
If you decide to return fire, make a Marksmanship spin and proceed as in the #1 result explained above.
If you stay under cover, the other soldier realizes that you are both in the same army and apologizes for nearly killing you.
If you spin a number higher than your Agility number, spin again to see if your injury is major or minor.
If you spin a number from 1 to 4, you suffer a minor wound. Make a spin on the Minor Injury Table to see what kind of wound you sustained and its consequences.
If you spin a 5 or 6, you have a major wound. Make a spin on the Major Injury Table to see what kind of wound you sustained and its consequences.
